In creating a unique hospitality experience for Joseph Phelps Vineyards, BCV re-imagined the original winery building to feature a variety of tasting room experiences for guests and an enhanced connection to the surrounding landscape.
First designed by architect John Marsh Davis, the main building was constructed in 1973 with a commanding view of Spring Valley, Napa Valley and the Mayacamas Mountains. In keeping with Joseph Phelps’s ongoing vision, the completed project increases the Winery’s ability to host visitors, expands its food program and provides offices for staff on a new second floor created within the original structure. The new program utilizes approximately 17,000 SF of the existing 35,000 SF building, restoring key elements of the original design, upgrading seismic, mechanical and access to modern codes while preserving space for future expansion by the next generation of the Phelps family.
