Do Not Try to Remember: The American School of Architecture in the Bay Area
February 20 – August 8, 2025
At the Center for Architecture and Design, San Francisco
February 20th marked the opening of the exhibit Do Not Try To Remember at the Center for Architecture and Design. This exhibition is an extension of the exhibition Outré West which was on display at the Oklahoma Contemporary from August 22, 2024 to January 27, 2025. We published two blogs posts on Outré West about opening night and Hans' time as a section curator.
On opening night, BCV Founding Principal Hans Baldauf participated in a panel discussion along with Stephanie Pilat and Angela Person from the University of Oklahoma. The panel was moderated by Marco Piscitelli of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo who curated the exhibit.
Among the architects whose work is featured in both exhibitions is that of John Marsh Davis. Hans wrote the monograph Design Legacy of John Marsh Davis - Early Career: Wood Expressionism 1961-1979, which was published by Oscar Riera Ojeda Publishers in 2023.

Looking forward, in June 2025 Hans will interview Donald Macdonald who graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma and works in the Bay Area. MacDonald has had a wide-ranging career in architecture and design extending beyond housing for the homeless, aiding the Native American occupation of Alcatraz, and most recently the design of bridges including the East Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
