The Crow's nest Residence

Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, California

Located in the Crow’s Nest development of Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, this 5,600 SF, three-story ski-in/ski-out cabin enjoys 360° views and direct access to the ski lifts. A board-formed concrete podium anchors the cabin into the hillside, allowing the steel, glass, and wood structure to emerge above the snow line. A double-height living room sits at the center of the home, and features large south-facing windows, a grand stone fireplace, and log columns that reinforce this cabin’s place among a cathedral of trees. The south-facing deck features a hot tub, fire pit, and outdoor dining table for slopeside family lunches year-round.

Top left image: A side view of the cabin from a distance. The bottom of the house is concrete with the rest of the house being wood. The house is in a field surrounded by trees.
Top second to left image: The exterior of the front entrance. There are two front doors: one on ground level and another off the deck on the first floor.
Top second to right image: A large wooden table in the dining room. Two lights hang above each end of the table. Behind the table are large glass windows framed with a light-colored wood. The windows reveal a deck outside with an outdoor table and seating.
Top right image: The staircase in the house. There is a black metal railing all along the side of the switchback stairs. Hanging from the ceiling are lights that are individually encased in varied glass spheres on long strings. The wall behind the stairs is majority glass.
Middle left image: One of the bedrooms in the house. The bed is surrounded by light-colored wood and very large windows. Behind the blue-grey headboard of the bed is a framed picture of a mountain. At the foot of the bed is a wooden bench with red and brown blankets neatly folded on the edge of the bench. The windows reveal the wooded and mountainous landscape outside, along with a porch that is accessible from the bedroom. A woman is standing on the porch looking out onto the landscape.
Middle second to left image: The interior ground level entry. The door is a light-colored wood with a large pane of glass in the middle. The door is framed by a wooden arch with additional windows that cover the distance between the arch and the door. The rest of the entry wall is concrete. The wooden arch motif is used again a couple steps from the entrance to form a small entry room. Simple half-moon shaped sconces adorn the wall on either side of the entryway. There is a small red rug on the concrete floor with a repeating wavy line design in light brown. To the right of the entrance is a small black shelf, with two red chairs on either side and winter boots on the ground. A small potted plant sits on top of the shelf, and above the shelf is a framed poster of the mountain during wintertime.
Middle second to right image: The Living room is a large room with high ceilings. A large, black metal chandelier hangs above the room. There are large glass windows framed by light-colored wood. The windows allow you to view the forest landscape outside and the patio directly outside the room. In the right corner is a large stone fireplace with firewood stacked inside. In the center of the room is a white, L-shaped couch with blue, red, and brown pillows and red throw blankets. Directly in front of the couch is a wooden coffee table and a high pile white rug. There is another L-shaped couch across from the white couch with a glass coffee table and a black and white patterned rug. The house is an open floor plan and there is a view of the dining room behind the white L-shaped couch.
Middle right image: A tulip table in the middle of a room with six tulip dining chairs around the table. The table has a black circular top and a white stand. The chairs are white with blue seating cushions. The table and chairs sit on a shaggy white rug. Above the table is a white, pendant light. A section of the back wall has some recessed shelving containing books, several plants, and a small, framed sketch. To the left of the shelving is a door to the balcony that is slightly ajar. The door is a light-colored wood and has a repeating diamond pattern that repeats in an outward fashion towards the top and bottom of the door.
Bottom left image: A deep, white kitchen sink with polished grey countertops. The wall is comprised of light-colored wooden planks. Right above the sink is a large glass window facing the breath-taking mountains and wooded landscape. On either side of the window are floating white shelves that hold various dishware.
Bottom second to left image: A sauna on the entry level floor. The wall is concrete, and there is a single recessed light on the ceiling. There are three windows along the back wall allowing you to enjoy the views.
Bottom second to right image: A view of the door to the balcony adjacent to the dining room. The door is a light-colored wood and has a repeating diamond pattern that repeats in an outward fashion towards the top and bottom of the door. The wall on either side of the door is comprised of floor to ceiling windows and a light-colored wood. In front of the door, we see a hint of the dining room table and chairs, along with a pendant light.
Bottom right image: An exterior view of the back of the house. This photo is taken at night, so you are able to see all the windows lit up.
