NAPA VINEYARD ESTATE
Napa Valley, California
The design of this residential compound for a large family takes advantage of its secluded setting amid vineyards and rolling hills to create blended interior and exterior environments in harmony with their surroundings. The main building is organized around a central courtyard and pool, creating an intimate setting that takes advantage of the warm Napa climate throughout much of the year. An expansive kitchen, dining and living area is positioned with views into the courtyard and out across the vineyards, while bedrooms are set back from the main gathering spaces.
The site planning integrates several existing buildings on the property, balancing open gathering areas with private spaces for relaxation. As part of the design, two barns will be preserved and incorporated into the overall site, including one that will house a private library and meeting areas.
Located in the Crow’s Nest development of Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, this 5,600 SF, three-story ski-in/ski-out cabin enjoys 360° views and direct access to the ski lifts. A board-formed concrete podium anchors the cabin into the hillside, allowing the steel, glass, and wood structure to emerge above the snow line. A double-height living room sits at the center of the home, and features large south-facing windows, a grand stone fireplace, and log columns that reinforce this cabin’s place among a cathedral of trees. The year-round south-facing deck features a hot tub, fire pit, and outdoor dining table for slope-side family lunches.
