ZEPHYR WALK
San Francisco, California
Fisherman's Wharf is one of San Francisco's most visited neighborhoods, known for its eclectic souvenir shops, bustling sidewalk scene and panoramic views of the Bay. As part of a revamp of Hotel Zephyr at Fisherman's Wharf, Pebblebrook Hotel Trust hired BCV to re-envision the Jefferson and Mason Street sides of the property, and in doing so create a retail experience in keeping with the hotel's evolution and its vibrant waterfront location.
Comprised of 46,000 sq. ft. of retail and entertainment uses, Zephyr Walk provides welcoming new experiences for locals and visitors while establishing a unified architectural vocabulary for the street. As a reference to the steady stream of container ships on the Bay, visible from the property, BCV incorporated painted shipping containers as a prominent design element, defining tenant spaces and providing a platform for signage and branding opportunities. In an effort to provide a softer, more organic feel to the street, BCV hollowed out the containers that suspend off an existing parapet, creating plated areas to support drought-tolerant native grasses.
