Ghirardelli Square, considered the first successful adaptive reuse project in the country, has a history that spans more than a century. Between 1852 and 1895, Ghirardelli’s Chocolate Factory, established by Domenico Ghirardelli, was located at several different sites before the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company took over the Pioneer Woolen Mills on North Point Street. A San Francisco landmark, the 99,551 SF complex, comprising a dozen buildings across an entire city block, now houses specialty retail and dining and is a significant tourist attraction.

Working within the historic fabric of Ghirardelli Square, BCV Architecture + Interiors and Jamestown are revitalizing several long-vacant commercial spaces, producing feasibility reports on program, code, mechanical, structural, and historic viability, and overseeing consultants to develop project documentation. BCV continues working with Jamestown to revitalize Ghirardelli Square, including opening a 12,000 SF San Francisco Brewing Co. restaurant and brewery with indoor dining, an outdoor beer garden, and production space, giving the popular Bay Area brewery a home at this iconic destination.
