Christian von Eckartsberg is a founding Design Principal of BCV Architects. A LEED Accredited Professional, Mr. von Eckartsberg has a passion for Market Hall hospitality projects that celebrate the intersection of food, wine and sustainable lifestyle design. Mr. von Eckartsberg’s interest in Lifestyle/Food-related design has led him to pursue diverse projects, including major Hospitality and Hotel projects, Food Market Halls, Food Service Retail, Restaurants and Wineries, as well as Residential and Mixed-Use developments. Mr. von Eckartsberg’s Market Hall projects include the San Francisco Ferry Building, Hudson Eats in downtown Manhattan’s Brookfield Place, the acclaimed Oxbow Market in Napa and Napa Farms Market, with two locations at San Francisco International Airport.
Highly experienced with Hospitality and specialty food service projects, Mr. von Eckartsberg directed BCV’s award-winning design for San Francisco’s wine collective/lounge concept Press Club and is currently leading the design of several cafe and retail marketplace concepts at SFO, including Samovar Tea and Tomokazu. Among Mr. von Eckartsberg’s extensive restaurant work is the elegant Crush 29 in Roseville, CA, M.Y. China for celebrity chef Martin Yan in San Francisco, and the German beer hall Schroeder’s, in San Francisco’s Financial District. Mr. von Eckartsberg has also produced standout work in the Pacific Rim for prominent hospitality groups such as Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and Westin Hotels, designing trendsetting restaurants in Bangkok, Singapore, Beijing and Shenzhen. Mr. von Eckartsberg’s skilled design and supreme attention to detail is coupled with an immutable respect and appreciation for budget and project limitations, seeing constraints as opportunities for innovation.
Mr. von Eckartsberg enjoys design at all scales, from master planning, architecture, and interior design, to custom furnishings and the sustainable food movement. Through his leadership role in public market design, his creation of timeless restaurant environments, and BCV’s guiding role at Slow Food Nation in 2008, Mr. von Eckartsberg and BCV have formed significant collaborations with leaders in the wine and food world to create projects that help build and sustain communities and culture.
